Social media is an important consideration for an artist these days. But with so many social media platforms to post on, it can be hard to organise and keep track of posts. A social media content calendar makes the organisation and scheduling of posts quicker, easier and less stressful. At Not Yet, we've been making content calendars for ourselves and artists for almost two years, so I'm going to run you through the basics of a content calendar to help you create one yourself.
I find that a spreadsheet is the best place to create a content calendar, but you can do it just as easily in any kind of table.
Week, Date & Day

These columns are pretty self explanatory, the date and day columns can be helpful if you're sectioning a social media campaign into parts and want to see that easily on your calendar.
Post Summary
Here is where you want a summary of the key information the posts must include. This isn't the text you're going to post, as this will likely vary from platform to platform, this is just a summary of the key information that the posts will contain. For example if you're posting to announce an album release, this column will say "Album release announcement".
Media & Content Links

The media column is where you can make a note of what kind of media(if any) you're going to include, eg polls, playlists, photos, or videos. This can help you to remember to upload any media to posts, and make sure that you aren't posting the same kind of media too often, as this can get boring for your followers.
The Content Links column will contain photos, videos, or links to any pre-made content that you want to add to your posts, to make it easier for you to view.
Hashtags/Trends
Here is where you can put any internet trends that you want to include in your posts, for example Throwback Thursday, Flashback Friday, or New Music Friday.
Social Platform Copies

A content calendar can consist of as little or as many social media platforms as you'd like. Some social media platforms require different types of post to others, so here is where you can type out the text you want to post on each platform.
For this example, I've chosen Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, but you can also include platforms such asSpotify, LinkedIn, TikTok, or even mailing lists!
Notes
This column is pretty optional, you can add whatever notes in here you want. I choose to use it to put down if posts have been scheduled, and if so for which platform, and at what time.
Overall, you should end u with something a bit like this:
